Born in Neola
Gokulananda was born to Purnachandra Das and Saranga Das in the village of Neola, Bari. Before books claimed him he was a slingshot marksman, river swimmer, fisherman, sculptor, painter, village actor, honey-keeper and tabla player — a childhood that shaped his lifelong belief that true relaxation brings deep concentration.

Prof. (Dr.) Gokulananda Das reshaped mathematical research in Odisha through leadership roles as Vice-Chancellor of Utkal University, founding professor at Sambalpur University, and Chairman of the Institute of Mathematics and Applications. Beyond high-level analysis, he bridged abstract mathematics with society through grassroots education, textbooks and popular literature.
His life's philosophy — that true relaxation brings deep concentration — was forged in a childhood of river-swimming, tabla and village theatre, and carried through everything he taught.
